Once there lived a hare and a tortoise in a forest. The hare was very proud (গর্বিত) of his speed and often made fun of the tortoise for his slow movement. Whenever they met, the hare laughed at him and said, “You are so slow! How can you win a race?” The tortoise was not angry. One day, he calmly (শান্তভাবে) replied, “If you think you are so fast, let us have a race.” The hare laughed loudly but accepted (গ্রহণ করল) the challenge (চ্যালেঞ্জ). The race started on a fixed day. The hare ran very fast and soon went far ahead of the tortoise. 

After running for a long time, he looked back and saw that the tortoise was still far behind. The hare became overconfident (অতিরিক্ত আত্মবিশ্বাসী). He thought that he could easily win, so he decided to take a rest under a tree. Soon he fell fast asleep. Meanwhile, the tortoise continued (চালিয়ে গেল) moving slowly but steadily (ধীরে কিন্তু নিয়মিতভাবে). He did not stop or lose hope. At last, he reached the finishing point. After a long time, the hare woke up and ran as fast as possible. But it was too late. The tortoise had already won the race. The hare felt ashamed (লজ্জিত) and understood his mistake.

Looking back, he found that the tortoise was still far behind. The hare became overconfident (অতিরিক্ত আত্মবিশ্বাসী) and thought that he could easily defeat (পরাজিত করা) his rival (প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বী). Therefore, he decided to take a short rest beneath a shady (ছায়াময়) tree. Before long, he fell into a deep sleep.

Meanwhile (এদিকে), the tortoise continued (চালিয়ে গেল) his journey with remarkable (উল্লেখযোগ্য) patience and determination (দৃঢ় সংকল্প). He neither stopped nor became discouraged (হতাশ). Step by step, he moved forward towards the destination (গন্তব্য). Eventually (শেষ পর্যন্ত), he reached the finishing point while the hare was still asleep.

When the hare finally awoke (জেগে উঠল), he realized (উপলব্ধি করল) his terrible mistake. He immediately started running at full speed. However (তবে), his effort was useless because the tortoise had already crossed the finishing line. The hare felt deeply ashamed (লজ্জিত) and regretted (অনুতপ্ত হলো) his arrogance (অহংকার) and carelessness (অসাবধানতা).

The story teaches us a valuable (মূল্যবান) lesson. Success does not always depend on speed or natural ability. Patience, perseverance (অধ্যবসায়), discipline (শৃঙ্খলা), and continuous (অবিরাম) effort can overcome many difficulties. On the other hand, excessive (অতিরিক্ত) pride and overconfidence often lead to failure.

He was absolutely confident (আত্মবিশ্বাসী) that victory (জয়) would be effortless (অনায়াস). Nevertheless (তবুও), he accepted the challenge and agreed to race from one particular (নির্দিষ্ট) point of the forest to another.

On the appointed (নির্ধারিত) day, the race commenced (শুরু হলো). The hare immediately rushed forward with tremendous (প্রচণ্ড) speed and left the tortoise far behind. After covering a considerable (উল্লেখযোগ্য) distance, he looked back and noticed that his opponent (প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বী) was nowhere near him. His confidence soon turned into overconfidence (অতিরিক্ত আত্মবিশ্বাস). He thought that there was absolutely no necessity to hurry. Therefore, he decided to rest beneath a shady (ছায়াময়) tree. Within a short time, he fell into a deep sleep.

Meanwhile (এদিকে), the tortoise continued his journey with remarkable (উল্লেখযোগ্য) patience (ধৈর্য) and perseverance (অধ্যবসায়). He neither stopped nor became discouraged (হতাশ). Though his progress was slow, it was steady and purposeful (উদ্দেশ্যপূর্ণ). He remained focused (মনোযোগী) on the destination (গন্তব্য) and continued moving forward step by step.

After a long sleep, the hare suddenly awoke (জেগে উঠল) and realized (উপলব্ধি করল) that he had wasted precious (মূল্যবান) time. He sprang up and ran as rapidly (দ্রুতভাবে) as possible. Unfortunately (দুর্ভাগ্যবশত), his desperate (মরিয়া) effort could not change the result. As he approached the finishing point, he was astonished (বিস্মিত) to see the tortoise already crossing the line. The hare felt humiliated (অপমানিত) and deeply regretted (অনুতপ্ত হলো) his arrogance (অহংকার) and negligence (অবহেলা).

The incident profoundly (গভীরভাবে) changed the hare’s attitude. He understood that natural talent alone cannot guarantee (নিশ্চিত করা) success. Consistent (নিয়মিত) effort, patience, determination (দৃঢ় সংকল্প), and perseverance are often more powerful than speed without discipline. Thus, the tortoise’s victory became a memorable (স্মরণীয়) lesson for all the animals of the forest.
